About Jamie Bamber
Jamie Bamber is a London-born actor who read modern languages at St John's College, Cambridge, before training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). He made his name as the young naval officer Archie Kennedy in the Hornblower television films (1998-2001) and appeared in HBO's Band of Brothers (2001).
His international breakthrough was the role of Lee "Apollo" Adama in the acclaimed reimagining of Battlestar Galactica (2003-2009). Back in Britain he played DS Matt Devlin in Law & Order: UK (2009-2011), followed by DI Tim Williamson in Marcella (2016-2018) and Colonel Alexander Coltrane in Strike Back (2019-2020). He has also guested in American series including House, NCIS and Rizzoli & Isles, and his fluency in French has led to French-language film work such as Un jour mon père viendra (2012) and L'Embarras du choix (2017).
On stage he has played Prince Hal in Henry IV at the Bristol Old Vic (2002) and Mephistopheles in Dr Faustus at the Liverpool Playhouse (2005), and he has worked on BBC radio drama. He also played Kev Allison in the Sky firefighter drama The Smoke (2014) and Dr Tyler Wilson in the American medical drama Monday Mornings (2013). In 2026 he joined EastEnders as Ned Roper.
In Beyond Paradise Bamber plays Archie Hughes, Martha's former fiance and one-time business partner. He first appeared in the opening series and later returned as a regular, his presence adding tension to Martha and Humphrey's life in Shipton Abbott.
